Podcast Listener Question: What is Our Responsibility Helping Family Leave the Church?

A Listener Question: Leaving family behind – Do we go back for them ? Do we leave them alone?

This is a very difficult thing for anyone leaving the message or a fundamentalist church. To what extent should you bear responsibility for helping others – especially your own family – to leave the message? In short, my response is this; you can try, but you aren’t responsible. Not for the outcome. Not for the circumstance. Not for the difficulty of emotion.

What you are responsible for is what you can control; and that begins with yourself. You can work towards your own healing and wellbeing. The focus on yourself, and taking care of your needs will position you to be better able to help – should that time come.
